Courses Planned for Autumn 2010

 

BTEI Courses

BTEI—Back To Education Initiative — this programme provides free training to participants who are entitled to, or dependants entitled to

  • a medical card - or
  • an unemployment payment - or
  • a means tested welfare payment - or
  • a Family Income Supplement payment.

If you are in doubt as to whether you are entitled to free tuition please contact the Centre Manager on 071-98-54928/54030. The courses below are free to those eligible - however they can also be paid for if non-eligible.

Beginners Computers For Farmers and Other Beginners

This is a beginners Computer class known as Computer Literacy—FETAC Level 3 but we have added a couple of classes which will show you how to use your new knowledge to complete farming tasks on the computer.

Communications—FETAC Level 5

Communication skills are highly valued in the workplace but also central to personal, social and professional development and fulfilment. We are running this course as part of our ongoing Childcare Award but new participants are welcome.

FÁS Courses

All the courses in this section are available free to FÁS eligible participants but can be accessed by non-eligible participants who wish to pay a fee. FÁS Training centre in Ballytivnan, Sligo or a local FÁS officer should be contacted to ensure eligibility or the Ballagh Centre can give general guidance.

Clerical Receptionist Course

This is a comprehensive Clerical Receptionist course which will include using a calculator properly, using spreadsheets, calculating VAT, developing a filing system, writing letters on Word, writing and understanding Memorandums, developing communication skills; using the telephone and internet as well as dealing with people face to face. Using office equipment including photocopier and fax. Must have previous Word and Excel experience.

Manual and Computerised Payroll

This course will be offered at FETAC Level 5 and it aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain payroll records manually and on the computer in a small to medium sized organisation using the Sage Quickpay software package. The manual element will be a soft introduction and Certification will be offered for the computerised element of the course — Computerised Payroll.

ECDL - European Computer Driving Licence

This course covers computer skills and the use of common applications of the Office Suite in the workplace, the home and in society in general. We recommend that you complete the basic and improvers course before enrolling on the ECDL - or that you do the ECDL preparation course below.
